 TRAID and Project Adapt
Overview
Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities (TRAID) is a federally funded project administered by the New York State Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities. In New York, the TRAID dollars have been used to establish regional technology centers that are providing information, borrowing, and referral services for persons with disabilities. It is the intent of the TRAID Centers to improve people's access to assistive technology equipment and services.
Enable, the CP affiliate in Syracuse, has received funding through Project Adapt, an assistive technology lending library, which makes items available for borrowing to persons of all ages. There is no fee to individuals for the TRAID Center services.
Services
In addition to Project Adapt, the Central New York TRAID Center provides information and referral services regarding assistive technology, a Verizon telephone demonstration program, and advocacy information.
The TRAID Center also gratefully accepts donations of items and adapted equipment that are in good condition and can be "recirculated" in the community through the Project Adapt lending library. Services are available to individuals with disabilities of all ages, their family members, service providers, educators, employers, and others who are interested in disability issues and/or assistive technology.
The Central New York TRAID Center serves a six county region, which consists of Onondaga, Madison, Cayuga, Tompkins, Cortland, and Oswego counties. A rural outreach project has been developed to make monthly visits to the counties other than Onondaga.
