Self-Directed Personal Assistance

Self-Directed Personal Services (SDPS) are provided in collaboration with Onondaga County. The SDPS program allows people with disabilities to have control over their personal assistance services.

Services

SDPS allows participants to screen, interview, hire, train, supervise and, if necessary, dismiss their own personal assistants. Personal assistants offer support such as personal care, light housekeeping, companionship/supervision and delivering meals.

Because individuals have more control over their care, they have more responsibilities. The participant must be able to direct their personal assistance service. If the individual cannot, he/she must identify another person who is willing to take on the responsibility to direct the service.
