STARS (Social Training for youth with Autism and Related Syndromes)
Families of children with Autism, Asperger Syndrome, and other Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) spectrum disorders have reported problems with social interaction as one of their child's most frustrating limitations.
STARS (Social Training for youth with Autism and Related Syndromes) is a group to help children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders learn and use social skills. STARS meets once a week for one hour. Our format is a combination of teaching, practicing, role-playing and fun activities.
Services
Services begin with an initial screening/assessment to help identify key areas of difficulty and for appropriate group placement. Ongoing services include goal-setting to address target skill areas, small group sessions, parent discussion groups, and learn-at-home materials for children and parents. Group therapy sessions are provided for three different age groups; 7-9 year olds, 9-13 year olds, and 13-16 year olds. All STARS groups are led by experienced clinical staff, including psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists.
