Sensory Integration

Sensory Integration

Enable's Sensory Integration Services provide multi-sensory experiences for individuals with a variety of sensory deficits. Individuals who have difficulty receiving, processing or responding to sensory information may demonstrate:
  • decreased attention span
  • limited social interaction
  • tactile defensiveness
  • over/under reaction to sensory input
  • self injurious behavior
  • limited food tolerances
  • decreased body awareness

Services Include:
  • Evaluation
  • Individual therapy
  • Small group sessions
  • Equipment recommendations
  • Caregiver training
  • Workshops

Evaluation Services
Enable clinicians are trained in both observation based and standardized evaluations. Our clinicians are certified in the administration and interpretation of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT). A detailed report is written which discusses the results and recommendations.

Therapy Services
Therapy sessions help the individual organize the sensory systems to encourage appropriate responses to the environment.

Therapy programs are developed around each individual. Enable offers 1:1 therapy as well as small group sessions. Activities to increase or decrease responsiveness to sensory input are provided in a specialized environment.

Referrals
Referrals for sensory integration services at Enable are accepted from service coordinators, physicians, day habilitation programs, work programs, schools, families and others.

Funding
Enable accepts Medicaid, private insurance, private pay, school district and alternate funding sources. The staff at Enable can assist in completion of paperwork required by third-party payers.

Information/Resource
Training, in-service and informational workshops are available.

What is Sensory Integration?
Sensory Integration is taking information from the environment and integrating it into our bodies through our seven sensory systems:
  • Taste
  • Smell
  • Sight
  • Hearing
  • Touch (tactile)
  • Proprioception (muscle)
  • Vestibular (balance)
This information is processed by our Central Nervous System. People with sensory integration problems can be either "over responsive" or "under responsive" in any one of the sensory systems or have combinations.
