Self-Directed Personal Assistance
Self-Directed Personal Services (SDPS) are provided in collaboration with Onondaga County. The SDPS program allows families of children with disabilities to have control over personal assistance services.
Services
SDPS allows families to screen, interview, hire, train, supervise and, if necessary, dismiss their own personal assistants. Personal assistants offer support such as personal care, light housekeeping, companionship/supervision and delivering meals.
Because families have more control over the care of their child, they have more responsibilities. The family must identify an adult as the “designated representative” to act as the supervisor of the child’s care.
