Peter Haas Receives 2005 Excelsior Award for Excellence from Assemblyman Jeff Brown
Assemblyman Jeff Brown (R-121st AD) awarded the 2005 Excelsior Award for Excellence to Cicero resident Peter Haas, who joined the Assemblyman in Albany during a special Assembly ceremony. The Excelsior Award for Excellence is presented to a resident in each Assembly district of New York who has overcome physical and other personal challenges. The award honors the winners' extraordinary achievements and dedication to the community.
"Peter Haas is an outstanding member of our community. I was pleased for the opportunity to recognize his accomplishments and his perseverence, and I thank him for being such an active member of our community, despite his physical challenges," Brown commented.
Peter was nominated for the award by Enable. Executive Director, Sara Wall-Bollinger, noted that Peter "...always portrays himself as a typical person with a zest for living life to the fullest every day." His strong work ethic and skills, as well as his desire to remain involved in the community were the basis for Enable's nomination.
Peter lives independently and works part-time at Enable, where he is highly respected by his co-workers for his skills, as well as his humor and wit. In 2003, through his work in the payroll department, he independently discovered what was later determined to be criminal identity theft. While challenged by the confines of a wheelchair, Peter has remained actively and enthusiastically involved in the workplace and the community.
Brown concluded, "Peter is an inspiration to all of us, and I commend his determination."
