A Preschool Success Story

hen Sarah Giesenschlag was three years old, she had difficulty developing the strength in her legs to walk because she has cerebral palsy. That soon began to change after her parents, Jack and Cathy, enrolled her in Enable’s preschool program.

“It really is a wonderful program. It is so great that kids with and without disabilities are integrated together,” said Cathy. “Enable gave Sarah her first walker, and with it her first opportunity to walk. Once she was mobile, she absolutely bloomed.”

In early May, Sarah graduated from Aurora University in Illinois with a master’s degree in special education.

“I never envisioned myself as a teacher,” Sarah said. “But while working as a special education aide in a high school, teachers began to leave me responsible for their whole class when they had to step out. I thought, ‘Hey, I can do this!’” Sarah continued to work full time while earning her master’s degree.

Sarah is just one success story to emerge from Enable’s preschool program. With a gift to Sowing the Seeds of Success, you can help us write more success stories for children of all abilities.
