First Niagara Knows Mentoring Matters
Enable is honored to have received a $13,000 gift from First Niagara Bank. The majority of the funds will support school-to-work transition mentoring in Enable’s Employment Services.
Mentoring assists high school graduates with disabilities who are seeking employment. Enable staff mentor these young adults in skills such as resume writing, interviewing, etiquette, and using public transportation with the goal of securing a job. The mentoring process helps individuals gain a more realistic conceptualization of employment and how their skills can be best utilized.
Even after employment is obtained, the staff will keep in touch with both the young workers and their employers. This ongoing communication helps to identify any potential problems, and to provide additional training or workplace modifications to ensure that the employment experience is successful for both the young worker with a disability and the employer.
The remainder of the funds will support services for children with disabilities through Enable’s special events. Thank you to First Niagara for their generosity!
