This three‐part seminar will explore attention disorders in children throughout their school career, from preschool through high school.
Part 1: Assessing and Treating ADHD
Presented by Dr. Kevin Antshel
- Discuss current 'gold standard' methods for assessing ADHD
- Discuss current behavioral interventions for managing ADHD in adolescents
Dr. Antshel is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the ADHD Lifespan Treatment, Education and Research Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Dr. Antshel has published widely on ADHD, autism spectrum disorders and learning disorders.
Part 2: Understanding Attention and Promoting Successful Outcomes in Attention Disorders
Presented by Dr. George Starr
- Origins of normal attention in infancy and development through childhood
- Attentional styles and differences
- Management of attentional disorders at school and home
- Attention disorder 'friendly' careers
Dr. Starr is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics, now Emeritus. He has taught extensively on topics of child development and learning issues including Pediatric Grand Rounds, Child Psychiatry Rounds, a series of yearly lectures for Syracuse University School of Education, for the SU‐Upstate Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program, and for the Syracuse City School Nurses.
Part 3: A panel discussion with students with Attention Disorders
