Main Function

Implements therapeutic services to children enrolled in Itinerant or SCIS Programs in Early Intervention or Preschool Models.

Duties

  1. Provide Services
    • Provide direct, indirect and/or consultative therapy services in and integral/inclusive manner that is functional and meaningful for the child and supportive of their overall early childhood education program.
    • Maintains an active caseload in different classrooms or teams.
    • Plan for use as well as assist with maintenance of therapeutic supplies and equipment.
    • As part of a transdisciplinary team, uses own judgment and experience within existing agency policies and practices and professional standards to provide therapeutic services to infants, toddlers, and preschool children with disabilities.
  2. Maintain Records
    • Maintain required or requested departmental and/or participant records and statistics.
    • Provide evaluation (re-evaluation), planning and implementation of therapy services inclusive of appropriate records and/or reports.
  3. Communication and Training
    • Work with other professionals on transdisciplinary teams (sharing own knowledge and skills, role releasing when appropriate; incorporating practice on child's goals in all areas during therapy service delivery) to implement a complete developmental program for each student.
    • Remain current with professional and program service development.
    • Attend and participate in appropriate departmental and committee meetings as assigned or requested.
    • Provide professional supervision, consultation, and training to agency personnel relative to therapy needs of agency participants.
    • Assist with discipline support and training of other department personnel as requested.
  4. Other duties as assigned

Scope of Responsibilities

With general supervision, evaluates, plans and implements therapeutic services to participants with a range of disabilities to improve their quality of life and future education.

Education and Experience

B.S. Occupational Therapy; licensed in New York State. Two years experience with children with disabilities.

Conditions of Employment

Site-based staff must have transportation adequate to meet program needs.Itinerant staff must have a valid NYS driver license in accordance with the Agency Vehicle and Driving Policy. Must be able to lift 45 pounds and sit on the floor. Must be able to work 10-month school year program plus 6-week summer program. Must participate in database check through the State Central Registry of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. Must participate in successful database checks through the HHS Office of Inspector General and Excluded Parties List System.
