Main Function
Under direct supervision, assists therapy staff and participants with activities in and around the pool, wellness center and other assigned program areas.

Duties
 

1.    Aquatic Supervision

§             Must remain on deck following Department of Health requirements to allow for ongoing therapy.

§             When leaving deck, must ensure that a qualified supervisor is on deck to relieve.

2.   Participant Support

§             Provide assistance to participants in and out of the pool/locker room/changing areas.

§             Transport participants as needed to/from reception and respective treatment areas.

3.   Pool area maintenance 

§             Remove excess water on surface of walking areas.

§             Clean pool area when therapy services are completed for the day.

§             Complete daily inspection in morning prior to opening. Report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Assistant Director or his/her designee.

§             Ensure that life saving equipment is in working order and is in assigned place.

§             Replace safety equipment as needed.

§             Check and document pool chemistry three times per day (morning, midday, afternoon) on Health Department Forms.

§             Maintain pool storage area and deck for neatness/cleanliness.

§             Provide on deck supervision in accordance with Department of Health regulations during scheduled hours.

4.   Equipment

§             Set up and take down equipment for aquatic therapy program.

§             Maintain pool equipment.

§             Maintain hydrocollator tank: take daily temperature, replace water as needed, clean monthly.

§             Maintain paraffin bath: check level of paraffin, order new paraffin as needed.

§             Schedule yearly maintenance for required equipment including but not limited to hydrocollator, paraffin, electrical stimulation machine, sensory integration suspension equipment.

§             Complete linen care including collecting dirty linen for laundering, folding and restocking clean linen. Wash, fold and replace linens to varied treatment areas as needed or at least twice weekly.

§             Clean toys and equipment with antibacterial cleanser as scheduled.

5.    Therapist support

§             Assist therapist with participants individually prescribed goals.

§             Answer telephone in pool and respective treatment areas as assigned.

§             Re-organize equipment, weights and therapeutic items daily to assist with neatness.

§             Assist therapists with participant transfers as needed.

§             Change linens on mat tables and pillow cases during peak treatment periods or when requested by therapist.

6.   Performs other duties as requested.

Scope of Responsibilties

 

Education and Experience
 

High School Diploma or GED.  One year minimum working with individuals with disabilities. Lifeguard certification preferred.

Conditions of Employment
 

No lifting restrictions.  Must be able to lift 75 lbs.  A pre-employment physical (Post-Offer) which is sufficient in scope to ensure that the employee is free from a health impairment which is of potential risk to patients or which may interfere with the performance of his/her duties as required by the New York State Department of Health (Article 28).  A Health Assessment form must be completed annually thereafter.  Must maintain a CPR and First Aid certification with yearly renewal.  Must be 18 years or older with proof of age to meet Department of Health requirements for on deck aquatic supervision. Must be able to tolerate a warm environment. Must not be allergic to chlorine, other pool chemicals or cleansers. Must participate in successful database checks through the State Central Registry of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, HHS Office of Inspector General and Excluded Parties List System.
