Teacher Aide

Main Function
Provide support to children enrolled in a Special Class in an Integrated Setting and to assist in the attainment of each child's Individual education Plan goals.
Duties
1. Provide Services
§ Facilitates practice of long and short-term goals in daily tasks.
§ Facilitates social interactions between the children in the classroom.
§ Practice "fade-back" support providing what is necessary to achieve goals.
§ Encourage generalization of skills and independence.
§ Ensure the safety of the children at all times.
§ Assist children in daily living skills such as toileting, feeding and dressing.
2. Communication
§ Interfaces with team providing anecdotal information on progress and strategies via team meetings.
3. Classroom Support
§ Assist children with arrival and dismissal routines including walking children to and from school buses.
§ Implement set up and clean up routines in the classroom and other school areas (such as motor room and play ground) inclusive of regular cleaning of toys with approved anti-bacterial cleanser.
§ Assist therapists with set up and clean up of any specialized equipment or materials needed for therapy, and participate in role-release training with therapists in order to integrate therapy strategies into regular classroom activities.
§ Foster inclusion of identified children with the typical children in the class.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilties
Under day-to-day supervision of a certified Teacher of Students with Disabilities, as part of a transdisciplinary team following established Agency policies and practices, implement education plan goals to identified children.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required. Experience working with young children with disabilities and/or experience in early childhood setting preferred.
Conditions of Employment
Transportation necessary to meet program needs. Must be able to lift 45 pounds. Schedule is based on a 10-month school year plus 6-week summer program plus mandatory staff development. Must participant in database check through the State Central Registry of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. Must participate in successful database checks through the HHS Office of Inspector General and Excluded Parties List System. Must be able to sit on the floor.
